Your English Experience

Imagen
My experience learning English at university has been very good. During the pandemic I had a hard time keeping up with the English classes and being able to be in person is great. The subject of blogs is new to me, but I have liked it a lot. Writing is part of the journalist's training, but I have always liked it, it is a very own form of liberation and happiness. There are many aspects of my English that need to be improved, such as pronunciation, grammar and many other things, but I want to learn it in a more native way with a course or with a professional technical translation career. Outside of English classes, I use it very little, still, I try to watch series or listen to music in the language to improve my receptive skills.

One of my favorite journalism sites is: https://chilefilos.wordpress.com   It is a site about Chilean audiovisual content, it has sections on movies, series, new voices, interviews, critics and reviews and many other things, although it does not yet have content because it is the beginning of a project. I like it because it is part of our project in Digital Journalism, I feel that it'll be an excellent platform to find out about cinema in the future and that it will help people to learn more about the national industry. I visit it very frequently because I am in charge of the graphical interface of the site, but in general I really like how this project will be a contribution to people, the content will begin to be generated from the second semester, through short videos, notes, interviews, reviews, critiques, podcast and much more. Whether in classic content of Chilean cinema or in new or emerging content in the industry, not only in films, but also to get to know its directors, a...

I really like oriental food in general, because of  how nutrition is fundamental to the culture, especially in Japan with Sushi. It's rice with raw fish, which when it arrived in the West became the California rolls that we traditionally know, those that contain more vegetables and cheese than the traditional ones. The rice is washed to remove all the starch and cooked only with water, then it is cooled with rice vinegar and sometimes a little soy. The preparation of the fish is generally to let it marinate with various oils, spices or vinaigrettes, so that when consumed it's tasty, then it is cut thin to put it on a ball of rice. I like it a lot because Japanese culture has good ways of eating and taking care of its nutrition, as well as variations that can be made to add vegetables and make it healthier. It makes a positive impact as long as it is sushi similar to that consumed in Japan due to its simplicity and healthy ingredients. I took this photo on the first trip we made...

My favorite piece of tech

Imagen
My favorite piece of technology is a Kindle, because I really like to read and it's a platform where I can carry thousands of books in one place. I take it with me almost every day and use it to read whenever and anywhere I can. Its technology is very easy to use and very intuitive. The best thing is that you can buy the books in just one click. It affects my life in a very positive way. I read a lot of novels of various genres and journalistic books, which helps me to foster my creativity. I would 100% recommend it for people who like to read. It's very comfortable, practical and light as well as ecological because you avoid using paper to create books. A good investment for a book lover. Another benefit is that if you can't buy a book you can search for it in PDF and transfer the file to the device and it can be read perfectly.

Why did I choose my major?

Imagen
My decision to study journalism was a journey of many routes. When I was a child, pediatrics or preschool teacher were the careers that I most remember mentioning. However, at the end of secondary school, my strongest options were journalism or translation. Journalism was always my first choice because of its versatility and the multiple ways of exercising it. But my biggest motivation was that it is a profession that can be done anywhere in the world. After having everything ready, I realized that Translation was another of my options, which I know I will study one day. My experience has been extraordinary, I have met magnificent people in the process, who have inspired me to continue. Every day I learn and discover more and new areas of knowledge that can be part of journalism and multiple ways to generate jobs or income.

Who Am I

Hi, my name is Lucía Álvarez, I'm from Peñaflor but at the beginning of the year my family moved to Concepción. I have three younger siblings and 4 pets, three cats and a dog. I'm a journalism student at the University of Chile, my favorite color is purple, my favorite book is Siddartha, I really like watching movies and series, especially watching anime while eating popcorn. The experience of being a student from the region is strange, most of my story is in Peñaflor but this new chapter begins to be written between Concepción and my province, which is generally known for El Trapiche Park, where various cultural activities take place.
